Northwest Science Fair Extravaganza 2010

Start thinking about your science fair project now!  Science Fairs in the Northwest for all students from K-12 are coming soon! 

PRINCE RUPERT:  Saturday, January 30th, 2010 at Charles Hays Secondary School

KITIMAT:  Saturday, February 20th, 2010 at Mount Elizabeth Secondary School

TERRACE: Saturday, March 20th, 2010 at Veritas School

HAIDA GWAII:  Saturday, May 29th, 2010 at the Haida Heritage Centre in Skidegate

SCHEDULE:

  9:00 am - 10:00 am       Register and set up projects
10:00 am - 12:30 pm       Judging (10:00 - 11:00 Primary Grades; 11:00 to 12:30 pm Elementary and High School Grades)
12:30 - 1:30 pm               LUNCH BREAK FOR PARTICIPANTS - PLEASE PROVIDE A LUNCH FOR STUDENTS IF THEY ARE STAYING AT THE SCHOOL DURING THIS TIME AS NO LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THEM
12:30 pm -   1:30 pm       Judge's Deliberations
  1:30 pm -   2:30 pm        Awards
  2:30 pm                           Clean Up

Age Categories:

           1.  K-3
           2.  Grade 4-7
           3.  Grade 8-12

Types of Projects:

  • Experiment: an investigation undertaken to test a specific hypothesis
  • Study: a collection and analysis of data to reveal evidence of a fact, situation or pattern of scientific interest. It could include a study of cause and effect relationships or theoretical investigations of scientific data.
  • Innovation/Invention: the development and evaluation of innovative devices, models, techniques or approaches in technology, engineering, or computers.
