Rethink, Recreate, Reinvent:  Three R's for a New Natural Resource Economy

In June 2009, NSIS partnered with the Skeena Nass Centre for Innovation in Resource Economics (SNCIRE) to host a REGIONAL FORUM, and it was clear from that event that if we are to build a sustainable economy for this region, we need to move to focus on our strengths and assets – things that make the region special and different. To do this, we need to spend time looking at what we have, and then try different approaches to generating wealth from those strengths and assets. That’s innovation.

Rethink – Expanding our horizons, opening our minds to different options and new opportunities, and to what a new natural resource economy could, can, and will look like.

Recreate – Coming up with the ideas and actions that could create a new natural resource economy.

Reinvent – Trying out the ideas and actions, learning from what was tried, and trying again, until we are successful.

NSIS and SNCIRE are currently looking at ways to host a follow-up to this forum, to be held sometime in spring 2010.
